Holiday Operations

Well, as you might expect, the holiday season brought some extra car movements to the BS&T. Fortunately, we were able to call in some extra help to handle the added work. Unfortunately, one employee decided he needed a vacation and high tailed it for a warmer climate. I hope Christmas in Orlando was worth it Derwin!!!

Anyway, we did have two guest operators for the pre-Christmas run. Steve Dickie and Ryan Nelson were on the Island for the holiday and made the trip to Summerside. I think (hope) they enjoyed their time here.

Here are a few pictures from the session…

work in Kenville, for now, so helps Ken out as Brakeman in
Chappellton. Brian runs the Wholeinthall Turn as Mark
builds the East Bound Wayfreight.

a few cars to drop off here, but a few more to pick up heading west.

That’s about it for this session. With the extra operator I was able to take a few more pictures than usual.

Until next time!

    You found something for those people visiting from the mainland to keep them out of trouble.

    Looks like they were have fun.

    Yes, the mainlanders were busy.

    I expected at least one extra operator so I figured I’d give everyone a little more work. I upped the car movements in my program to 70. They were still done in record time! My crews are getting better – learning the railroad – so I’ll have to up the movements a little more. The only trouble with that is I’ll need double-headed helpers soon! Ha!

    Will your program allow for cars to be moved from one industries to another. ie, pickup an empty box car at Company X and set it out at Company Z? I have noticed the samething on my layout. They have gone from an hour to forty five minutes per session.

    Yes, cars can follow an orderly progression like waybills for car cards. But unlike car card/waybills there is no limit to number of cycles.

    The other option is to just let cars cycle randomly through the list of potential destinations for the car. A box car could go to the freight shed, transfer facility, either yard, staging, the repair shop, etc, while a tank car might only potentially go to the yards, the oil dealer, staging, and the repair shop. Each car has it’s own list of potential destinations.

    Hey Scott;
    Glad to hear you managed to get some Train time in during the Holidays. Sounds like the lads had fun. Hmmm – Derwin sounds lucky to have been in Orlando for the Holidays. Wonder if he managed to sneak away to any of the Hobby Shops (I know it can take some fancy pleading – woops -I mean talking when you are on vaction with the family). I have been to Colonial Photo and Hobby in Orlando a couple of times over the years – very nice ( read large) model trian section. Happy New year Scott.

    I’m not sure if he’ll have time/opportunity for that or not. I hope he does.
