Our doomed trip to Moncton

We were supposed to go to Moncton last Saturday for a day of operating, but it was postponed due to a death in the family of one of the guys we were going to visit.  We were supposed to go today, but this happened…

Needless to say we didn’t go to Moncton!  Amazing what a difference a day makes.  I could see green grass yesterday.  Now this is what I see when I look out my front door…

Going from green to that in one morning is too much!  I hope we get some warmer weather and rain to get rid of this soon.   It’s too early to have snow!

Hopefully we’ll get our Moncton trip in before “winter”!  Official winter at least.

No, I didn’t get to work on the layout today.  We were without power this morning so it was too dark in the basement to do anything.  I cooked breakfast on the camp stove and went out to blow out the driveway and walkways when the weather calmed down around noon.  The snow was so wet and heavy it took a good 2 hours to get it cleaned up.  The power came back on about 3:00 this afternoon.  Then i worked on our outside door that was damaged in some high winds we had last weekend.  Will the chores ever end!

Tomorrow is layout day.  I have to get it cleaned up and ready for operating tomorrow evening.

Yesterday, I also planned to work on the layout, but I spent most of the day removing snow. The snow plow put a bank four feet high and four feet deep at the end of the driveway. There was over two feet in most of the driveway. I wonder why I parked my car at the other end of my thirty foot plus driveway.

Hope you guys get to Moncton before “Winter” sets in.

Sounds like you guys got more snow than we did. Or perhaps I have a more neighborly snowplow driver. I usually don’t get much snow at the end of the driveway – it starts out about 2 feet deep by the car then tapers of to about 6 inches. But the snow usually drifts quite deep across the street just to the left of my driveway. This drift usually end up at the end of my driveway as the snowplow is doing its thing. Fortunately that didn’t happen yesterday. Thank God for snow blowers!

Kim’s in Moncton shopping today. That’s both a good and scary at the same time. I’ll be able to work on the layout most of the day, but how much will she spend! That’s where I’m off to now – it’s got to be operational in 6 hours and the place is a mess with all the scenery work I’ve been doing.

    Later!

Lucky you, we had that snow in the last week of October. It melted about 4 days later. So far we have had no more but everywhere around us has snow. Have fun running trains tonight and say hello to everyone for me.

    Cheers

  3. Well – here it is 5 days later and the snow is still here. I agree with you Scott – too much and way too early. However it is suppose to rain today and be mild for the next couple of days. I hope it all goes. Cheers.

Similar weather here – +5 right now and the snow is melting. You can finally see the pavement in the driveway again. It’s supposed to be mild for the rest of the week.
