Great a new layout for me this summer LOL. Maybe we can plan mine, I just have to get that CAD Rail program

<em>CadRail SchmadRail. Put some plywood down and start moving track around until you get something you like. Or do what I finally did in Chappellton - get a bunch of buildings and place them around the area until you get a town or industry arrangement you like, then try to figure out how to get rail to them. It's sort of the way things are done in the real world, isn't it? Buildings are constructed then it's up to someone else to figure how how to get rail service to them.

You can plan your life away trying to get something to work in software or on paper only to find out it doesn't operate well. I admit I use software (Atlas RightTrack) for initial planning purposes, but I don't spend a lot of time with it. I just rough out something that looks good and then I usually throw a lot of it away once I start laying track, or at some point after we start operating. Both Chappellton and Derwin's Drop have been rearranged a few times - 4 or 5 in the case of Chappellton.

Unfortunately Clayton usually takes the summer (April or May until September or October) off from operating so I'm not sure you'll get some time in there or not. I'm sure you will get to see the layout at least.

Later bud!

Scott

Nice to hear that Clayton's layout is back in action. That will give you four layouts now on the "tour" with Ken's making five.

Doug

<em>Not sure if Ken wants to do an open house or not. Tom has been talking about it though. I'll have to post a link to his site.

I'm so confused - what is Clayton? Is it a person or a place?

<em>Ha! Clayton Howatt is another member of the Half Nuts gang. But there are two locations on his layout named East Clayton and West Clayton. So I guess it is a place too.
