New Throttle Holder

It seems there’s a throttle holder shortage in the market these days.   We used to be able to buy an adjustable cell phone holder at the Dollar Store, but they have not been available for some time.  I’ve looked for them in dollar stores in 3 provinces but have not found them anywhere.  You can buy them, and similar items, in other stores for $10+ each, but I’m not willing to spend that much money for all the holders I would like.

The other day I was in my woodworking shop cutting some large pieces of 1/4″ plywood into many smaller pieces for Kim to tole paint (Christmas decorations).  As I was cutting her stuff I decided to build a throttle holder with the scrap pieces of ply.  This is what I came up with (click the image for a larger view).

It is a very simple design and only took about 15 minutes to cut and put together.  I estimate it cost about $1 for the wood required, but since it’s just scraps anyway I  really consider it free.  I will be making more as the scraps become available.

A version, not as finished, is what I have on the WRS.

It’s just a little paint. I didn’t even bother to fill the nail holes.

  2. Your version of the holder looks good Scott – I snagged three of the Dollar Store holders probably 5-6 years ago, and your right – I haven’t seen any lately. Have a great long weekend.

PS – I painted the lake bottom tonight – hopefully will be ready to take some pictures soon….

We saw them on a recent trip but not at a Dollar Store. They were $11 each. There was no way in #$@@ I was going to pay that!

I’m looking forward to an update on the Nottingham Sub. blog!

That seems like a whole lot of effort for a holder! Good idea on having them though, it never really occured to me… – I was thinking of a coat hanger twisted to form a crab claw, with dots of hot glue or whatever on the rough tips to stop scratching….

It wasn’t a lot of work at all. About 15 minutes was all it took. I will make more as the scraps become available.

You’d want to be extra careful the the blob of glue does not come off the wire. Someone could get quite a snag. What system/throttles do you use?

The holders we had been using were intended as a cell phone holder and were adjustable in width. At $1 each they were perfect for a throttle holder.
